Goodness in 2004

I generally don’t like Christmas for various reasons, those meaning that I have to return to my hometown for a couple of days - a place which I absolutely abhor. Unlike the other students here whom seem to take every passing opportunity to go “home”, I haven’t been home since last Christmas. Of course it’s not because I don’t love my family dearly, it’s just that the place where I grew up just holds so many awful memories for me. It just seems like the worst possible place on Earth for someone like me (mixed-race, gay) to be brought up and introduced to society. It seems strange, but after only a year away from home, I feel comfortable enough to say that this, Brighton, is now my “home”. And nowadays it’s my mother visiting me here instead of me rushing home to her… Another reason for disliking this time of year is that I become reminiscent of events that have occured throughout the passing year and being slightly pessimistic, I always tend to dwell on the negative. Here’s a rundown of the past year (let’s see if I can outweigh the bad with the fab!)

Good Things That Happened This Year

Bad Things That Happened This Year (doesn’t warrant a full list)
Someone spitting in my face, developing eating problems, dangerous self-harm, alcohol problems, getting into large amounts of debt, overdoses, psychiatric hospital admission, arsehole landlords.. Still, best to just forget these things & move on into the new year!

Phew. Today felt like a very long day. My reward? La Mala Educatión. That’s if I can work out how to load subtitles up…

Finances! Eek!

i wouldn’t ask this if i didn’t have to and wasn’t absolutely desperate…

ok. i’m moving house on the 28th of this month, just after christmas. to move in i’ve got to pay £450 deposit, then £111 for administration fees. that’s already £561 before i’ve even moved into the property, then from the 1st of jan my first month’s rent of £346. that’s £907 ($1,763!) in one hefty lump. now i’m not asking you to pay my rent but as a wee poor little student that lives in the 2nd most expensive city for students in the UK, i’m begging for some help! i have approx. £500 left over from my student loan which leaves me with quite a sum to rustle up. of course i’m not expecting that much donated to me (that would just be foolish), but if you could just buy a print (or two…) i would be eternally grateful….

as in, i will love you forever, because i will be one step closer to living in a decent house and you’d be supporting me as a struggling poor artist.. cough cough yes.. please?
