Lou, Terra & Jay
I’ve recently had the good fortune of attending some gigs - mostly good, with one particular bad one. A few months ago I got the chance to see Terra Naomi in a cute little venue in Camden (same place I saw Rachael Yamagata too). This woman has such a great voice, brilliant song-writing skills, as well as a damn good dress sense to boot! If you haven’t already, pick up a copy of her album Under The Influence. You may remember her from Live 8 too. Here’s some photos from her gig, and then her album cover:

After finding out that Lou Rhodes (the female singer from the cult-followed band Lamb) had used a photo of mine on her website, I got in touch and was invited along to see her perform at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London. It was such a beautiful stunning gig and Lou’s solo material is so deliciously delicate. Check out her latest album, Bloom. Here are some photos from that Gig (one of which is being used on we7’s feature of Lou).

As you may have read previously I then had tickets to see Amy Winehouse. I’ve been a fan of Amy’s for a long time, and seen her more than just a few, but the gig was .. incredibly disappointing. After reading various reviews of her bad performances just days before, I wasn’t feeling particularly optimistic. Arriving on stage late and clearly under the influence, I went through a range of emotions from anger through to pity. Main events during the evening were Amy’s constant slurring; lack of remembering words to her own songs; staring up at the lights in an acid-induced gaze; staggering around; offering to introduce the band and then walking off; bad rapport (embarrassingly so!) with the crowd. The list was endless. It was so disappointing to fork out so much money for Hilton and I to see a show that seemed so disrespectful. Bad Amy, bad!
Hilton & I had mentioned going to see Jay Brannan (of YouTube and Shortbus fame) for our anniversary. Unfortunately as we went to book the tickets we realised that both him and Amy Winehouse were playing on the same day. Luckily Jay’s first gig sold out and he added another date, which meant we could go on our actualanniversary. We left him a little note on MySpace saying thanks and mentioning our anniversary. So off we trotted last night to Camden for such a beautiful gig. Jay’s humility is always so comforting and he even dedicated a little song to us after asking who the Anniversary Boys were. To make it the best anniversary ever he was then joined by Terra Naomi and they performed a duet of Say It’s Possible (Terra’s version & duet version). I almost wet myself with excitement. Terra also invited us to a wee secret gig she’s playing later on in the week in London. Score! We picked up a home-made CD at the end (which we got signed) and spent the long train journey home cuddling.
