My date, Little Miss Married, wasn’t very well this evening so I decided to catch the film myself. Ever since I saw the trailer for A Single Man I knew I would love the film. Its intricate, stunning cinematography obviously jumped out at me. The colours, the shots.. I’ve never really been a true fan of Colin Firth’s. It was Julianne Moore that really made the film catch my eye. I love that woman. Tom Ford has made such a spectacle of this movie, not only is it my kind of story (in that nothing-really-happens way), but the visual aesthetics of it are instantly notable and appealing. It’s filmed in such a cold, blue light, and every time a moment of emotional intensity hits, this beautiful saturated colour fades in… it’s incredible. Towards the end I couldn’t stop thinking “This really reminded me of The Hours,” and then both people on either side of me said exactly the same thing…
