I need to buy a reasonably cheap but decent point-and-shoot camera. I’m mostly interested in Canon models (I’ve always been a Canon buddy), but I’m totally lost. I haven’t owned a point-and-shoot since 2003 and I’m more inclined to trust someone’s own judgement rather than a review. It’s mostly just for when I am out and about and don’t want to carry around my huge backpack at clubs/events/shows/friends & family dos. At the moment I’m totally obsessed with this Canon Digital IXUS 100 (bit old but would do the job?), but mostly because it’s entirely red and I am of course obsessed with the colour red. I’m pretty ridiculous. As soon as I see anything that’s red I instantly think, oh that’s nice, without even considering what it does..
So.. Any ideas/recommendations? Help!

Hahaha, I totally understand! I am the same about pink things… I buy things I don’t *really* need, solely because they are a nice shade of pink.
I have the pink Digital Ixus 95IS. It’s brilliant, actually, I have used it for a year or two, it gets bashed around my bag all day every day, and it’s still going strong. So the 100, being a model up, should be even better, and because it’s a little older than the current models, you won’t be paying through the nose for it.

I have that exact camera, but in black. It’s really really good. I was shocked at the quality you can get these days from a compact camera! Made me feel a little bit upset for my big camera, actually.
It’s really small, about the size of a credit card (just a bit thicker). If you look on my facebook you can see the kind of ‘snaps’ I’ve been taking with it. It could do more artistic stuff too if you wanted. It handles low light really well, it’s AMAZING with action shots (even on a cloudy day, gets them really sharp without any flash). I’d say try mine out and see what you think since you live so close now but you can’t even muster up the energy to send me an email, so…. !
